We arrived at the Baileyton KOA at around 2:30 PM, after losing another hour to the time change. The weather was cooler than it had been, so I left the kitties in the trailer while driving. The only tense part was driving through Knoxville. I didn’t see a convenient bypass so I just drove through the city and contended with the traffic, which was heavy on I-40. But about an hour from the campground, we split off onto I-81 to start wending our way north to New York.

The most memorable thing about this campground was my visit to the laundry room to wash a few loads of clothes and towels. I met a teenage boy who was into coin collecting — he was going through the laundry quarters, and the older guy he was with said the kid was looking for “special” quarters. Oh yeah, I said, the pre-1964 quarters were made of solid silver. So right there I made a friend — the kid and I hung out and talked coins until my laundry was done. I showed him my silver Walking Liberty dollar and the Gold Eagle I kept in my bag, and he went and got his coin collection to show me his Mercury dimes and a wheat penny and some Canadian and Mexican coins. It was a very pleasant way to spend time doing laundry.
