Summer heat wave strikes
Outside it’s like an oven
Drink more lemonade

Well, yesterday did not go quite as planned. Mom wanted to go into town with me—although she said she’d bring her chair and sit in the park while I went to the movie, I didn’t want to leave her there for two and a half hours in this heat. Also, my elder nephew is coming up from wherever it is that he lives these days and wants to go see Transformers in Lancaster on the big screen when he gets here, so I talked to my brother and arranged to go with him and Erik. I’m not sure whether we’ll go tonight or tomorrow—it depends on how late Erik arrives today. John will call me at the library to let me know. So I might possibly be heading straight to John’s from work. We shall see.

So, instead of an afternoon at the movies, Mom and I went into town around 2 pm and walked through the Hot Dog Festival at the park. There wasn’t much to it; a stage where a band would be playing, although they weren’t when Mom and I were there, a few booths set up with crafts and games for the kids, and some food booths, none of which appealed to me. We walked around twice, then headed for the Apple Shed for lunch. There was also a Food and Wine Tasting going on on Green Street, but it cost $10 to get in, and we didn’t want to pay that much. But we had a nice meal at the Apple Shed, then stopped at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for chocolate and headed home.

It was fiercely hot—Yahoo weather claimed it was over 100 F, and I wouldn’t be surprised. So it was not a day for lots of walking and wandering. (It would have been a fine day for sitting in an air-conditioned movie theater.) But it was pleasant enough, if brief. When we got home, I made lemonade with my last two lemons, and sat down to watch my DVD of Hellsing Ultimate V2, drink lemonade, and eat chocolate. That was also very pleasant. The second volume of Hellsing Ultimate was much better than the first, I think. More action, more violence, more of that crazy Hellsing humor. I also went back and watched the first volume, just to see if it was as unimpressive as I’d remembered it, and, yes, it was. And I watched both volumes’ discs of special features, interviews and trailers and such. Now I want to go back and re-watch the first Hellsing series. And read the manga again. Oh! Volume 8 of the manga has finally come out! I’ve ordered it, but apparently it’s going to be August before it ships. Oh well, I’ve waited this long….

I thought I had ordered a pair of running shoes online yesterday, from Finish Line sports’ clearance sale, but I never got a confirmation email, and when I tried to go back to check on my order, the shoes I thought I’d ordered were listed as unavailable, and the site didn’t recognize my email address. I suspect the shoes were sold out and my order didn’t go through, but I’ll probably email them today just to make sure before I buy some somewhere else. I can still get shoes like my current ones on eBay, but I feel somehow reluctant to buy them there. I’ve put several pairs on watch, but keep missing the end of the auctions. I ought to just go ahead and bid on a pair.

I also must start getting up earlier (which means going to bed earlier, by 10 pm instead of 11 or 11:30), so I can do my runs before the temperature hits 90 F. Yesterday’s run was okay, but I could definitely feel the heat before I was done. It gets hot so quickly—I really should be out there by 7 am. Or wait until it starts to cool down in the evening.

Here’s a picture of my yard covered in snow from a previous winter, to counteract the heat of the day.
