Arrived in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee around 2 PM after driving straight through from the Memphis KOA. I’d planned to leave the cats in the trailer for an hour or so until I made it through Memphis, then stop and see how they were doing and take them into the truck if it seemed too hot, but there weren’t any places to stop until I was about 15 minutes from my destination, at which point it wasn’t really needed but I did it anyway for the sake of 15 minutes’ worth of peace of mind. The cats were fine and the trailer didn’t feel that hot — I’d leave the windows cracked while driving and the shades down and it didn’t overheat like the inside of a car or truck would, so the cats were fine.

The fun part of driving through Memphis was seeing the Memphis Pyramid along the side of the freeway. I had no idea what it was at first — just this big shiny mirror-tiled pyramid in the middle of the city! I had to look it up online to find out about it. Would love to visit it some day.

Next stop, the Memphis KOA Journey! Actually located in Arkansas, just short of the Tennessee border, this was one of the most interesting KOAs I stayed in! I let the kitties ride in the trailer on the drive there, stopping every hour to check on them. I worried about the heat, since the trailer’s air conditioning wouldn’t work unless we were plugged in, but they made the trip all right. I had to drive through Little Rock, Arkansas along the way, and it was stressful as always driving through cities with the trailer, but other than that, the drive was fine. The campground was a little hard to get to, but the truck’s navigation got me there all right.

Ivy’s Cove RV Retreat

Ivy’s Cove RV Retreat in Russellville, Arkansas, was one of two non-KOA stops I made along the way from California to New York. I chose Ivy’s Cove because the KOAs along the way were either too close or too far away from my last stop, so I got brave and picked an RV campground that was conveniently located for my travels and had good reviews online. And it turned out to be a very nice campground — a lot like a KOA, with plenty of spacious, level pull-through sites and full hook-ups. The host was pleasant and welcoming, and the camp store was well-stocked with travel necessities.
